Job Description
We are seeking an experienced support worker to provide community support to an autistic gentleman in the Kirkby area of the city
He is a young man with autism, pica, echolalia and OCD. Who requires a structured, compassionate and individualized approach to his needs. Each condition brings unique challenges, so you will focus on safety, routine, emotional regulation, and social support.
The gentleman has Echolalia and likes to chant a lot. He also has Pica (the compulsion to eat non-food items) that can pose health and safety risks, so it’s important to address it with a structured, compassionate approach. You will therefore need to have an understanding of Safety & Environment surrounding PICA. You will need to be able to manage & redirect Pica behaviours, offer emotional & behavioural support and be able to act quickly if he was to eat or swallow something that he shouldn’t have.
Anyone supporting this gentleman will need to show an understanding of managing OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). The gentleman’s OCD can cause anxiety, rigid routines, and compulsive behaviours. The need to be able to competently give notice of changes is essential.
The gentleman likes gaming, swimming, bowling, watching shows (panto’s). He loves to go into DVD shops! (CEX).
Light Toileting support is required.
